The first feis- ahh the memories...ahh the confusion!! Going to your first feis is a confusing, but fun adventure. Here's a guide to surviving feis life.

BEFORE:
For the week leading up to the feis, practice, practice, practice!!! Polish those steps!
2 days before, pack up your stuff:
*Costume(s) with bloomers
*Hair stuff (hairspray, gel, extra scrunchies, crowns)
*Number and number holder (if mailed or given at class)
*Socks
*Shoes
*First aid kit
*Wig box or bag to put curlers in
*Clothes to wear after you dance
*Magazine, book, Gameboy...for those "waiting around" moments
*Practice music and CD player (optional, but handy)
*Big socks to wear over your heavies if practicing on carpet (eliminates post-practicing static)
*Makeup for touchups
*WATER OR GATORADE (or any other liquid lol)
*Snacks

The night before-
Eat a good dinner, and take a long bath. If you are curling your hair, be careful not to get the curlers wet. Wear a dry shower cap. Go to bed early, and wake up at a reasonable hour. Eat a good breakfast, and put on shorts and a tank top (depending on the weather, obviously.) Spray your curls once, and put on a hairnet. Get your stuff and go!

AT THE FEIS:
First, go to the admission booth, and pay your entrance fee. If unsure, ask where the numbers are being given out. Usually, you can find them by either a. dancers crowded around asking for numbers or b. a list of dances and stages above the table.
Get your number, and tie/pin it on. Now, find out what stages you/your child are/is dancing on. Example: Beginner 8/Reel/Stage C

Now, go into the gym/auditorium/cafeteria/ballroom, wherever the dance is taking place. Someone will announce the next group. When it is your turn, go over to the stage and await further instruction. The dancers will line up. It makes no difference how you line up, as long as you aren't next to someone from your own school.
The "Starter" will pull out dancers when it is their turn. Then...dance your best! Point your toes, cross your legs, arms down and SMILE!

After dancing, expect results to come out 15-20 minutes afterward. Usually, results are posted. You can find the results board by the dancers going "YESSSS!!" Lol, or just ask someone!!
Have fun, and be happy with your placing! :)
